You will have the opportunity to hear from leading medicinal and pharmaceutical scientists in their respective fields, who will talk about their experience and research. We hope to introduce you to different types of research in the pharmacy field.
Heather A. Carlson, Ph.D.
Carlson received her Ph.D. with Prof. William L. Jorgensen at Yale. She studied protein simulations with Prof. J. Andrew McCammon at UCSD. Carlson began her academic career at the University of Michigan in 2000 as the John Gideon Searle Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. She was promoted in 2011 to Professor of Medicinal Chemistry (College of Pharmacy) and Chemistry (College of LSA). She has received numerous awards, including the Beckman Young Investigator Award (2002), the NSF CAREER Award (2006), and the Corwin Hansch Award from the Cheminformatics and QSAR Society (2008). She was a Novartis Chemistry Lecturer for Novartis Pharma AG (2009-2010), and in 2011, she was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Chemistry Division. She has published over 95 papers and received $20M in grant funding. She was Chair of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry from 2021-2022. In January 2022, Carlson began her transition to biotech. She is currently Vice President for Chemistry Data Science at Odyssey Therapeutics.

Kim Moon is the Medication Therapy Management program manager in the Senior Health
Services Medicare Pharmacy Department, a division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She
has been a pharmacist with BCBSM/SHS since 2012 and has been heavily involved in Part D
Star ratings quality improvement. Kim is the Residency Program Director for the PGY1 SHS
Medicare Managed Care Pharmacy Residency, and she also precepts fourth-year pharmacy
students and lectures at the pharmacy schools of both Wayne State University and the
The University of Michigan. She has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University
and a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University.

Dr. Jason Pogue
Dr. Jason Pogue is a clinical professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacist at Michigan Medicine. Prior to this position he spent just over a decade at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) as an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacist at Sinai-Grace Hospital and as the co-chair of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee at the DMC.
Dr. Pogue received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Gannon University, before obtaining his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center followed by an infectious diseases PGY-2 residency at the University of Michigan Health Systems. His research interests focus on epidemiology and management of multi-drug resistant Gram-negative organisms and antimicrobial stewardship.
Dr. Pogue is a recognized leader in Gram-negative resistance and antimicrobial stewardship as evidenced by his significant contribution of over 125 peer-reviewed articles, over 125 abstracts, multiple book chapters, and presentations at numerous national and international conferences. Dr. Pogue has served as clinical pharmacy lead for multiple NIH funded studies addressing optimal use of polymyxins for extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Gram-negative pathogens. Dr. Pogue is a past president of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) and currently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee of The United States Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (USCAST).

This hands-on workshop aims to expose you to the field of compounding pharmacy. You will learn how to compound capsules, solutions, and suspension with kool-aid mix, flours, and candies by working closely with compounding pharmacists from Clark Pharmacy! It’s a very hands-on interactive workshop! It is our participants' all-time favorite workshop from the past year’s conferences.

Angela Chen is currently a 4th year PharmD Candidate at the University of Michigan. She co-founded the first GLPC conference in 2019 during her time on the Executive Board of the Pre-Pharmacy Student Organization. She has worked as a pharmacy intern at Clark Professional Pharmacy and the University of Michigan Health System. Her future goals are to pursue an acute care PGY1 and a PGY2 in Pediatrics, ultimately to practice as an inpatient pediatrics pharmacist.

Katie Bruce, the Director of Application Services and Student Programs at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), will lead the workshop and discuss the Pharmcas application. If you are interested in applying to pharmacy school, this is the perfect workshop for you to learn to navigate the PharmCas interface(The pharmD application platform) as well as the application timeline and process!
Katie Bruce
Ms. Katie Bruce is the Director of Application Services and Student Programs at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). For the past 10 years, Katie has worked in multiple roles with AACP related to student affairs and the promotion of pharmacy education. In her current position, she is responsible for the management, development, and oversight of the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS), Pharmacy Graduate Application Service (PharmGrad) and Pharmacy Direct Entry Application Service (PharmDirect). She serves as the staff liaison to the PharmCAS Advisory Committee and PharmGrad Advisory Committee. Both committees are comprised of AACP member volunteers charged with ensuring the centralized application services are designed to meet the needs of academic pharmacy and prospective student pharmacists. Katie also provides guidance and support for admissions teams, manages application enhancements and product development, and provides support for national student affairs activities and programs. Katie earned a bachelor’s degree at James Madison University where she was a member of the Division I women’s soccer team.
Keynote Speaker
Elke Lipka, Ph.D., MBA
Dr. Elke Lipka received her B.S. in Pharmacy and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, and her M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. During her Ph.D. she had the opportunity to work at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan as a visiting scientist.
Dr. Lipka joined TSRL in June of 2007 to develop a sustainable competitive commercialization strategy for TSRL’s technology portfolio. She became CEO of the company in 2018, and implemented the preclinical accelerator business model, working with inventors across the US and Europe on the early stage commercialization efforts of promising technologies.
Prior to joining TSRL, Dr. Lipka held a number of scientific and management positions of increasing responsibility at Parke-Davis, Pfizer, and Esperion Therapeutics. She is an experienced professional capable of building and managing multidisciplinary teams involved in the discovery and development of pharmaceutical drug candidates and drug delivery systems. Her expertise includes pharmacokinetic, biopharmaceutics, and drug safety evaluations of both small molecule and biologics drug development programs.
Dr. Lipka brings strong skills in project management, the establishment of strategic partnerships, and management of financial and operational business aspects to TSRL. She has secured more than $20M in non-dilutive funding to drive TSRL’s portfolio projects to clear Go-NoGo decisions for advancement towards clinical testing. She is passionate about empowering women, other minority scientists, and aspiring entrepreneurs to reach their fullest potential and make a difference in our ecosystem.
